A young boy named Andy is playing with his toys. Then his mom calls him down because the guests for his birthday party are here.
The toys form a meeting led by Woody the cowboy. He reminds everyone that Andy and his family are moving. So, they all need a travel buddy.
Then the toys find out that Andy is about to open his birthday presents. The army men toys use a special device to see what the gifts are.
Once the toys think that Andy is done with his presents, though, they discover that he has one more. It is a Buzz Lightyear action figure.
This prompts Andy to favor Buzz over Woody. Some time after his party, he redecorates his room with a Buzz Lightyear theme. Woody is devastated.
However, the other toys enjoy Buzz and start to prefer him to Woody. Woody and Buzz do not get along for a bit.
At some point, Andy’s mom takes him out for pizza. She also allows him to take only one toy with him.
Woody is hoping it’s him. He accidentally knocks Buzz out of Andy’s room. The other toys think he did it on purpose, though.
Since Andy can’t find Buzz, he decides to take Woody.
While in the car, Woody meets Buzz. The two fight to the point where they end up out of the car. They continue to feud until a Pizza Planet delivery vehicle comes. Woody and Buzz hop onto it, hoping it’ll take them to Andy.
While at Pizza Planet, Buzz ends up inside a claw crane, filled with toy aliens. Unfortunately, Andy’s mean next door neighbor, Sid, is at the place, too. He tortures and ruins toys.
Sid ends up grabbing both Woody and Buzz from the claw crane. He decides to take both of them home.
At Sid’s house, Woody and Buzz encounter his aggressive dog, Scud. They also discover all the toys Sid has ruined.
While the TV is on, Buzz discovers that he can’t fly and he is just a toy. This breaks his heart a lot. He even tries to fly. But he falls and his arm breaks off.
Some time later, Woody sees Andy’s other toys across Sid’s room. He says that Buzz is there, too. But the other toys won’t believe him.
When they see that Buzz’s arm is separated from his body, they think that Woody destroyed him. So, they refuse to aid him.
Will things get better? Or will they worsen?
This film drew me in all the way through. Although it’s less than an hour and a half long, the pacing wasn’t always quick. Some scenes went a little slower. But that was necessary.
All the characters were memorable and well-developed. Since I’ve seen the later Toy Story movies, I knew what was going to change. But that did not keep me from enjoying the movie.
Woody was likable. So was Buzz. Even though Andy and his mother were not very major, they got along well.
And Sid was fun to hate. I felt bad for what he did to his sister, Hannah’s, doll.
As with any good film, this one had a lot of twists and turns. See the movie to find out what they are.
Overall, I enjoyed Toy Story. It is totally worth watching due to its fun storyline and imaginative worldbuilding.
I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
