This British claymation franchise is beloved by people all over the world. It has a bunch of short films and a couple of full-length feature movies.
My family and I also enjoy Wallace & Gromit. I still remember watching the first 3 short films on video cassettes when I was little.
Anyway, for all the Wallace & Gromit movies I have seen, I do have some favorite moments. Even though I don’t normally discuss short films on my blog, this post will be one of the exceptions. Short films are still considered movies.
Below are my top picks:
1: When Gromit dressed as a female were-rabbit (Curse of the Were-Rabbit)
In this movie, Wallace tries fix the town’s rabbit problem with his invention. Unfortunately, that also causes a were-rabbit to come and eat people’s crops as well as get dangerous.
At some point during the film, Gromit dresses as a female were-rabbit to distract the actual were-rabbit.
I enjoyed that part because it was clever. The were-rabbit would follow Gromit. I also admired Gromit’s costume’s appearance.
2: When Wallace and Gromit almost fell into a crocodile pond (A Matter of Loaf and Death)
While the two are distributing bread to people’s houses, Wallace gets distracted by a woman riding her bike. This eventually causes them to be put in peril – and ultimately almost fed to some crocodiles in a zoo. Luckily, they save themselves.
One of the reasons this was funny was because they almost “broke” a zoo rule. There was a sign saying, “Please do not feed the crocodiles.” And had they gotten eaten, they would have “disobeyed” that guideline.
Thankfully, they stopped themselves from getting eaten by the crocodiles.
3: When the gnomes sang Wallace a lullaby (Vengeance Most Fowl)
Feathers McGraw, the evil penguin from the short film, The Wrong Trousers, is not finished with getting back at Wallace for penalizing him. To make him suffer, he hacks into a computer system and reprograms Wallace’s garden gnomes to become evil.
Some time later, after the gnomes are reprogrammed, they sing Wallace a lullaby and give him a special hot chocolate to make him fall asleep. Then they proceed with Feathers McGraw’s plan.
I remember laughing a lot when I saw this scene. I think it was funny, clever, and out-of-the-box.
4: When the mechanical pants controlled Wallace (The Wrong Trousers)
For Gromit’s birthday, Wallace gifts him mechanical pants to take him for walks. However, this wicked penguin, Feathers McGraw, is desperate for a special diamond in a museum. So, he makes Wallace wear the mechanical pants and does everything he can to have him retrieve that diamond.
Before Wallace actually stole the diamond, he walked down his neighborhood in the mechanical pants. He would freak out since they would make movements for him whether it was a brisk walk or jumping. And that made me laugh.
5: When the space Robot tried to hit Wallace on the head (A Grand Day Out)
Since all stores a closed for a holiday and Wallace is out of cheese, he decides to go to the moon to get some cheese. So, he and Gromit build a rocket and travel to the moon. Luckily, they find cheese, even if it doesn’t taste normal.
Later, Wallace takes something, which happened to belong to a space robot. The robot notices that his thing is missing and figures out that Wallace took it. He almost hits him on the head… until he runs out of power.
I enjoyed this part because it was humorous and unique. I’m also glad that the robot failed to hit Wallace.
6: When the car turned into a plane (A Close Shave)
Some time during this short film, Wallace and a bunch of sheep rescue Gromit from jail (he was there for something he didn’t do). However, they are being chased a mean dog. At some point, they encounter a cliff when escaping. But luckily, Gromit turns the car into a plane.
I liked this part because it was creative and surprising. It was also satisfying – otherwise, everyone would have either died or got injured.
Conclusion
So, there you have it. Maybe you also have some favorite moments from the Wallace & Gromit films. If you do, feel free to let me know in the comments.
