2026 and even the next few years following that have a lot of interesting movies coming out – including sequels and remakes.
For this post, I will share my reactions to a few upcoming film installments and remakes. These are the ones that I have the strongest feelings about.
1: Toy Story 5
After 4 installments, there is going to be a 5th one. And instead of a toy being the villain, an electronic tablet is evil.
I, honestly, think that a 5th Toy Story film is unnecessary. After all, Pixar did intend to make the 4th movie the final one.
I do find it interesting that they made a tablet called Lily Pad a wicked antagonist. Kids these days are on iPads a lot. Some prefer them over toys.
I guess Disney and Pixar are trying to communicate a message to young people about being on a tablet too much. But I have no desire to see Toy Story 5.
2: Shrek 5
As of now (2026), no plot has been announced for this film. But we do know that Shrek’s kids have grown up and are in their teens.
One thing that displeased me, though, was how the animation style changed. The characters look different, and not exactly in a good way.
Although it’s nice to see the triplets as teenagers, I, personally, have no desire to see Shrek 5. I thought the 4th movie was just okay. I’m pretty sure it was also supposed to be the final installment.
3: Narnia
Unlike the 2005 adaptation, which started with the 2nd installment, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, this one will begin with the 1st book in the series, The Magician’s Nephew. That one talks about how Narnia was formed.
I enjoyed the Narnia films from the 2000s. However, I consider the reboot unnecessary. One of the reasons is because the Narnia buzz didn’t last that long or was as strong – at least compared to Harry Potter.
4: Moana
The animated version from 2016 will have its 10th anniversary this year. But the idea of a live-action remake got greenlit not too long ago.
Although I did enjoy some of Disney’s live-action remakes, I think this one is too excessive. Let at least 20 years or so pass before remaking any film.
5: The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Despite how popular this series is, it didn’t work out for me. I saw a little bit of the 1st film from 2012, and I found the concept to be weird. It also didn’t feel too credible, as well.
Also, like Narnia, the popularity and buzz for The Hunger Games series isn’t too strong anymore. But maybe that’ll change when this new installment comes out. Yet I have no desire to see it or any Hunger Games films.
Conclusion
As you saw, I expressed disinterest in all the upcoming films that I listed. I really think they are all unnecessary.
Of course, your thoughts may differ. And I totally respect that.
