Warning: contains spoilers from the previous film***

Months have passed since Dr. Robotnik has been banished to the mushroom planet. A villainous echidna, Knuckles, helps him return to Earth to defeat Sonic.

Sonic tries to be a hero when driving an ambulance to defeat some criminals – except that he fails and almost hurts himself.

Back at home, Tom speaks to Sonic about how he should learn to be more patient because he still has some growing up to do.

Later, Tom and Maddie go to their friend, Rachel’s, wedding in Hawaii. Sonic stays home and has fun… only for trouble to begin when Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles invade the house. Their goal is to retrieve the all-powerful emerald near Hawaii, where it will turn wishes into reality.

Sonic goes after them. Then a young fox, known as “Tails” since he has two of them, shows up to accompany Sonic.

Tails has a special device that can perform different functions, including tracking. He and Sonic find shelter in Siberia, which happens to be a bar full of dangerous people.

They challenge Tails and Sonic to a dance battle. Sonic and Tails win, so they resume their journey.

They also end up crashing Rachel’s wedding through a ring that leads to other places. Tom, Maddie, and even Rachel have to get involved with the mission.

I admired The relationship between Sonic, Tom, and Maddie. It has improved since the first film from 2020.

One moment that I found cute was when Sonic did his own version of going through “security” in the home while Tom and Maddie entered Hawaii through one of the rings.

Another aspect that I found funny was how Tom’s contact for Sonic was “Doughnut Lord,” a name he’d called him in the first film.

It wasn’t just Maddie and Tom that Sonic had good relationships with. He also had one with Tails, who also had a tough life.

He was bullied while Sonic had to leave his old planet when the Echidnas attacked. That meant leaving his owl guardian, Longclaw, who’d passed away by the events of this film as revealed by the special map that located the emerald.

Which brings me to my next point, the movie started out a little bit slow and boring. But it became more exciting as it progressed with the level of conflict, especially during the second half. I won’t reveal the ending, though.

The movie had lots of action as well as various twists and turns. One of my favorites occurs during the Siberian bar dance battle.

After Sonic and Tails fail to do the competitor’s dance, Sonic plugs his phone into the music player, and plays “Uptown Funk.”

I enjoyed Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and give it 4 out of 5 stars.
