A bounty-hunting pig, known as Hitpig, is known for capturing escaped animals and returning them into their respective “homes.” He used to have an assistant… until she got attacked by a crocodile and lost her life.

Meanwhile, a wicked circus trainer, known as the Leapin’ Lord, is using poodles and an elephant to perform in his upcoming show. He is unhappy with their progress and locks them up inside their cages.

Pickles, the elephant the Leapin’ Lord is using, has hope to escape once the janitor says that he wishes that he could free her.

Later, a woman named Letícia dos Anjos who is an animal rights activist, tells Hitpig that she deducted all the money from his bank account to free some animals. Then the Leapin’ Lord calls him about an escaped elephant and offers him a million dollars as a reward to return it. Desperate for money, Hitpig accepts the offer.

When he finds Pickles the elephant, she thinks he is trying to help her escape to India to find her family. He unintentionally acts like he is.

However, due to Pickles’ careless personality, both she and Hitpig end up in crazy situations. From wild rides to hot air balloon rides to live performances, their adventure is sure to be hectic.

Although the beginning of this movie did bore me a bit, it got funnier later. I laughed a lot throughout it.

Some of the funny moments include:

  • The hot air balloon ride, where Hitpig had to keep chasing Pickles
  • The elephant performance that was done by people that Pickles thought involved actual elephants
  • Pickles’ carelessness and naive personality in general

I enjoyed the relationship between Hitpig and Pickles. No, it was not romantic. It actually reminded me a little bit of Marlin and Dory from 2003’s Finding Nemo. Differences include how Hitpig isn’t irritable or scared like Marlin and how Pickles doesn’t forget, and she stays confident.

As with any good movie, Hitpig has lots of twists and turns. One of them is how people don’t always notice Pickles the elephant doing crazy things. They act like nothing unusual is happening.

Even though I liked this film, I will admit that the animal cruelty was upsetting, despite how it was important to the story. However, it was very mild since this movie is intended to be family friendly. For example, the Leapin’ Lord would give the poodles’ dog food to Pickles and not feed them.

There are innuendos in this movie, too. But they will likely gloss over kids’ heads.

Overall, Hitpig was a good watch with its humor, memorable characters, and various surprises. I think people of all ages will enjoy it.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

One response to “Review of “Hitpig!” – The 2024 Movie”

  1. After reading this review and watching the movie, I would say that it was understandable Hitpig had to kidnap Pickles because he thought the circus was her “home” and so that he could receive a million dollars after Letícia emptied all the money from his bank account. I like how Hitpig had a change of heart after he got to know Pickles. What’s sad about this movie was the way how Leapin’ Lord abuses the animals, such as feeding Pickles dog food while the dogs have nothing to eat.
