A wedding planner named Mary Fiore is helping different brides at their weddings. Later, her father, Salvatore, reintroduces a guy she knew from her childhood called Massimo. Mary remembers that he used to eat mud.

Salvatore wants to marry Mary. But she does not desire him.

Mary hopes that her boss, Geri, will make her a partner at their company. She gets hired to plan catering heiress Fran Donnolly’s wedding to her boyfriend, “Eddie.”

At some point, while crossing the street, Mary gets her shoe’s high heel stuck in a tiny hole. She tries to get it out – only to come close to being run over by a cab. A man rescues her, and then she loses consciousness.

Mary wakes up in the hospital. She recognizes the doctor as the man who saved her. He is the head pediatrician, and his name is Steve Edison.

Later, Mary’s friend, Penny, invites Steve to an outdoor event. Yet she decides to leave Mary and Steve alone together. During a movie, a romantic song plays, prompting Steve and Mary to dance together. But their dance gets interrupted because it starts raining.

While at a dance lesson with a client, Mary runs into Steve, who turns out to be Fran’s fiancé. Fran gives Steve a hard time about him cheating behind Fran’s back while she dances with him.

At some point, Mary and the others go on a trip to Napa Valley, which is a potential wedding venue. Mary encounters Massimo again. He declares himself as her fiancé.

Later, while everyone is riding horses, Mrs. Donnolly, Fran’s mom, sings loudly – and enough to spook Mary’s horse. Steve rescues her again.

At home, Mary gets mad at her dad for trying to arrange a marriage between her and Massimo. He says his marriage to her mother was also arranged.

Things get crazier and worse…

The movie’s beginning was actually quite engaging. I loved watching all the different weddings occur.

The characters were also likable and well-developed. I admired Mary and Steve a lot. The dialogue was also clever at times, such as when Mary’s dad made a joke about how Massimo turned out after eating mud in his youth. I also laughed a few times during the movie.

That being said, unfortunately, after the beginning, the film became less engaging. I think the reason was because the tension levels were a little too low. I understand that it was necessary for this story. But even for romantic comedies, I prefer a bit more tension.

The movie was also kind of hard to follow since scenes kept changing so quickly. I do admire the plot, although it could have been more straightforward, even for a PG-13 rated film.

Overall, I thought The Wedding Planner was just okay. It actually didn’t perform very well, according to my research online.

I give this film 3 out of 5 stars.
