A 10-year-old girl named Aurora is asleep in her bed. But a dust bunny comes and forms the shape of an actual rabbit. Not only that, but it also moves like one.

Aurora notices it and screams. Her parents come in to check on her. She tells them what she saw. But they don’t notice anything. So, they tell her to go back to sleep.

Shortly after, there is a mysterious man outside. The next day, Aurora sees him in the elevator of her apartment.

However, she avoids him after that. For several nights, when she sees the guy, she hides.

Then there is a Chinese celebration nearby. Aurora finds the man again. She also watches some fighting happen.

Aurora warns her parents against going into her room since she’s worried that the monster will attack them. But they assure her that everything will be okay.

Unfortunately, they get attacked. Even worse, they die.

Aurora decides to hire someone named Resident 5B to kill the monster. He thinks that her parents were likely murdered by assassins, though.

Lots of shooting happens in Aurora’s apartment. And more stakes are about to rise.

Despite the promising trailer filled with action and fighting, this movie did not engage me the way I had hoped. In fact, the first several minutes pretty much only focused on Aurora and the strange man with little to no dialogue. It lagged and got boring.

I will even confess that I didn’t make it to the part where Aurora warned her parents about the monster. I used Wikipedia to help me narrate the events from there on. Of course, all words are my own.

But a trailer should never mislead a viewer. And tension should happen as much as possible. Setup should also not take several minutes to the point where the audience gives up hope.

I wish that the setup was no more than a few minutes long and that the action and other exciting moments happened much sooner. Then I may have finished the film all the way through.

On the bright side, the first several minutes were not frightening. I’ve seen horror movies that have scared me so much that I had physical symptoms, like chest discomfort.

But overall, I am sorry to say that Dust Bunny did not work out for me. If you’re a filmmaker or planning to become one, please consider limiting the setup moments to as little time as possible.

I give this movie 2 out of 5 stars.
