Max and his friends, PJ and Bobby, are having a barbecue as a way to celebrate going off to college. Goofy, however, is sad that Max won’t be with him for a while.

The next day, Max heads out with Bobby and PJ for freshman orientation. While at college, he meets this dark upperclassman, Bradley Uppercrust III. He is in charge of the Gamma Mu Mu fraternity, which has a history of participating in the college X games.

Meanwhile, back at home, Goofy is missing Max. When he goes to work, his empty nest syndrome gets in the way. He messes up his tasks and then gets fired.

After that, he goes to look for another job—except that he doesn’t have a college degree. And all the places he applies to require that. Goofy only went to college for 3 years. But despite feeling too old to go back and complete one more year, he decides to do so.

When Max is in class, Goofy comes in and sits next to him. Poor Max is now embarrassed.

Sometime later, Goofy and Max are in the library. Bobby and PJ try to sneak Max away. Realizing that that would be difficult in front of his father, Max tries to get him a library card to distract him.

While Max is with his friends, Goofy ends up falling in love with the librarian, Miss Sylvia Marpole. They also act silly… until another staff member tells them to stop.

At some point, there are tryouts for the X games. Max, his friends, and Gamma all go. Goofy eventually comes, too, although he is clumsy at skateboarding.

Max convinces him to join Gamma as a way to [secretly] stop embarrassing him. Even though they’re resistant at first, Bradley accepts Goofy onto their team for the X games.

The games hold their first round to see who will make the semi-finals. Bradley uses a bright mirror to blind Max, causing him to mess up. He also places a rocket on Goofy’s skateboard.

Both teams make it into the semi-finals. But Max gets mad at Goofy for making him look bad. He even tells him to stay out of his life.

Goofy is now heartbroken. He fails a midterm and misses his date with Sylvia. Things go downhill.

But can they be fixed?

I was surprised how much this film kept me engaged. Some parts were even funny.

Max’s friendships with Bobby and PJ were nice. They make a great trio.

PJ sounds more like Carl Wheezer from Jimmy Neutron than he did in A Goofy Movie from 5 years before. Of course, Jimmy Neutron came out after. But the actor who did the voice of PJ also played Carl. That is Rob Paulsen.

Goofy and Max had a better time getting along with each other than they did in A Goofy Movie. Of course, Max still gets humiliated because of his dad. But their relationship is still sweet.

I also admired Goofy’s romantic interest in Sylvia. There was a moment where they brainstormed different ideas for dates.

As usual with movies I enjoy, this one had fast pacing. Scenes also switched at the right times.

That being said, there were a few moments that I wish were resolved. However, they were minor parts of the story.

Like any good movie, there were also twists and turns. See the film to find out what they are.

Overall, I enjoyed An Extremely Goofy Movie. I actually liked it better than 1995’s A Goofy Movie. One of the reasons was because the characters were more likable.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars.
