For many millennials and older Gen Zs, the Twilight saga was hot during the late 2000s. People would get excited about the movies, be passionate about the books, and say if they were on Team Edward or Team Jacob.

However, I was not a part of that crowd. The reason is because I’m not a fan of Twilight. I saw the first film the theaters, but only because my friends wanted to. But it didn’t exactly engage me a lot.

Despite the popularity amongst the first installment, when the fourth installment, Breaking Dawn, came out as two parts on the screen, it did poorly. There were many reasons why. One of them was because it had controversial elements, such as Bella’s bizarre pregnancy.

Now these days, there is pretty much no discussion or buzz on the Twilight saga. It is possible that the fandom and popularity died down in the early 2010s due to the lack of success with Breaking Dawn.

Regardless of that, though, there is going to a reboot. It will be done in the form of a TV series, similar to Harry Potter.

I understand the reason for making a Harry Potter streaming series—which is to be more faithful to the books. But Harry Potter is a lot more popular than Twilight. Fandom has remained by discovering more facts about the franchise from J.K. Rowling, coming up with theories, discussing plot holes, and much more.

As for the Twilight saga, I find it a bit peculiar that they’re making another adaptation. In addition, there is also going to be an animated series on Netflix about Twilight from Edward’s point of view. It will be called Midnight Sun.

Just like how lots of people are tired of Disney making live-action remakes of their animated classics, I feel similarly about the idea of a Twilight reboot. I find it unnecessary, and maybe a “shortcut” to making more money.

No offense to anyone who is excited about it. If you are looking forward to the upcoming Twilight series, I respect your opinion. I’m just not thrilled about it.

I tend to have mixed feelings on remakes, depending on how they’re made and what is being rebooted. For instance, I enjoyed a good number of the live-action remakes of different Disney films such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, and Lilo & Stitch. They made some changes that pleased me.

However, when I saw the teaser trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter series, it felt too weird seeing different actors than in the movies. I grew up with the films and am so used to that cast. Their images are defaults, and I have trouble accepting replacements for them.

What do you think of the idea of a Twilight remake? Let me know in the comments if you wish.
