A young boy named Tony Thompson has just moved from California to Scotland with his parents. He has trouble adjusting to his new life, though. He finds his home creepy and gets bullied at school.

But one thing Tony is passionate about is the topic of vampires. He even has dreams about them at night.

However, others have trouble understanding his passion for vampires. That even includes his own parents, who think he is going through a phase.

One night, though, Tony is visited by a vampire boy of 9 years old called Rudolph. Although he is afraid of him at first, Rudolph takes him flying and shares his life as a vampire. Tony then decides to be Rudolph’s friend.

But because vampires have an aversion to light, Rudolph can only come out at night. During the day, he sleeps in a box in Tony’s room.

Tony shares with his parents that he made a new friend named Rudolph. Of course, he doesn’t tell them that Rudolph is a vampire.

Once night returns, Tony and Rudolph have more adventures, including scaring the kids that picked on Tony at school. However, his parents come to him as bats. Since they’re against mortals at all costs, Rudolph tells Tony to hide.

Not only does Tony’s strict father, Fredrick, scold him for befriending a mortal, but there are some vampire hunters out there. One of them is a guy called Rookery.

Aside from his mom and dad, Tony has a teenage brother named Gregory and a sister presumably close in age with him called Anna.

Regardless of what Rudolph told him, Tony wants to help Rudolph’s family find the amulet that can transform vampires into humans. After some resistance, Fredrick accepts Tony’s assistance.

One thing they learn is that hundreds of years ago, Rudolph’s uncle Von was in love with a lady, Elizabeth. In addition, he was the last one to have had the amulet.

But Tony gets surprised when he learns that the amulet is somewhere in his bedroom. He also realizes that that was why he was having bizarre dreams about vampires.

Once he, Rudolph, Gregory, and Anna start searching for it, though, the vampire hunters are getting more dangerous. Eventually, the kids find it. But it gets taken from them by the hunters. Even worse, Tony gets kidnapped. So, Rudolph and his siblings go out to rescue him.

Meanwhile, Fredrick and his wife, Freda, meet Tony’s parents. They end up being a part of the big mission, as well.

What will happen to Tony, the amulet, and all the vampires?

I strongly admired the concept of this film where an ordinary kid befriends a supernatural being. In addition, I appreciated the idea of an American family moving to Scotland. Setting a story there is a unique idea compared to having it take place in England. Of course, stories set there are fine, too.

The idea of an amulet that can turn vampires into regular people was creative. I find that more exciting than transforming humans into vampires.

Tony was likable, believable, and relatable. I loved when he finally scared the children that bullied him.

His friendship with Rudolph was nice. He also got along with Anna, who seemed pretty sweet and concerned.

Tony also had a heartwarming relationship with his parents. His dad even let him go to work with him when he didn’t have school.

The scenes where Tony and Rudolph flew together were fun to watch. Regardless of the title, Tony does not become a vampire. But his friendship with them did become close.

The tension levels remained high. I would worry when something bad happened to Tony or any of the other good characters.

Aside from “human” vampires, there were also vampire cows. They would fly and even attack bad guys.

Despite the strengths, though, there were some minor flaws. That is how some parts happened without explanation.

Otherwise, I enjoyed The Little Vampire. It was a good watch with paranormal vibes and adventure.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
