In the age of digital streaming, there are so many platforms to choose from. There are those like Disney Plus and Netflix, where you pay a subscription fee for anything on that service. And then there are sites like Amazon and Fandango, where you buy or rent one movie at a time for a certain price.
Although many films are available on a wide variety of services, some are only available on one platform. And some aren’t available on any platforms at all.
But this post is about how I feel about certain movies being only on one streaming platform. What is the answer?
It depends on the reason to why a certain movie would only be available on one platform. For instance, if the movie is a Netflix exclusive, it would make sense for it to be only available on Netflix. A big example is 2025’s KPop Demon Hunters. It even includes Netflix in it’s opening credits.
Another example is 2022’s Disenchanted, which is a sequel to 2007’s Enchanted. Even though Enchanted is available on different platforms, Disenchanted is only available on Disney Plus. That I actually find a bit peculiar. You would think that Disenchanted would be on the same platforms as Enchanted.
That means if you want to watch Disenchanted, you need a Disney Plus account. That’s no big deal to me, because my family already has a Disney Plus account.
However, there was a movie I wanted to watch that came out quite recently. That is 2020’s Palm Springs.
Despite how Google says it is available on both Disney Plus in Hulu, I could not watch it on Disney Plus. Instead, I was directed to the Disney Plus homepage.
I did open a Hulu account a while ago, but I don’t remember my username or password. Since I haven’t logged on to it for a while, I don’t even know if my account is still active. Therefore, I was unable to watch Palm Springs.
In this case, I wish it was on more platforms. But then again, it did come out during the COVID-19 pandemic, when streaming was pretty much the only way to watch movies. It might not have even had a theatrical release.
So, all in all, my opinions for different movies being only available on one streaming platform varies. Sometimes I understand, and sometimes I find it an inconvenience.
