The film begins in 1743. George Washington receives a private education from his older half-brother, Lawrence. His father had passed away, so George could not be educated prior.

Ten years later, George is interested in signing up for the British army. However, due to his colonial status, he is rejected.

Despite that, George is given another assignment. That is to travel far away to the Ohio country and hand a letter to the French, warning them to leave.

At some point, George decides to show up to a party at Thomas Fairfax’s place uninvited. Yet he finds a way to sneak in.

Once inside, he meets this beautiful young woman, Sally Cary. Although she seems nice, she would rather hang with someone actually invited.

In addition, George meets 2 other men. Their names are Thomas Gage and Christopher Gist.

After arriving in the Ohio Country, George and Christopher come across some Indigenous men. They break out into a fight.

George also falls into the freezing Allegheny River. Luckily, Christopher saves him. The 2 then resume their mission.

They at last reach the French and deliver their message to their leader, Joseph Jumanville. However, he will not leave, no matter what.

Sometime later, George, the French, and the Native Americans end up in a feud. It lasts quite long.

And worse – George faces more bad news and conflicts after that. What will those lead to?

I was surprised with how much the first half kept me engaged. Even though certain details were fictionalized, it turns out more of them were historically accurate.

I admired the portrayal of a young George Washington, who seemed kind and likable. As a guy who was only in his early 20s at the time, he was also naive and still learning how to be a person.

The tension levels were also quite high. Unfortunately, the flaws were just as even as the perks.

Although this was based on a true story, the sequence of the events were generally too hard to follow. I even lost strong feelings about certain elements as the story progressed.

Because of those issues, the movie started to become boring. I would also like to add that if you know little to nothing about George Washington’s early life, the drawbacks may feel stronger.

Overall, I thought Young Washington was just okay. A percentage of critics feel the same way, according to Wikipedia. But the general audience has more positive feelings about the film.
