The film begins with a few men silently looking at each other. Then one of them fires a gun and shoots.

There is the good, who was a guy just referred to as “Blondie.”  Then there is the bad, who is just known as “Angel Eyes.” And then there is the ugly, who is a Mexican bandit named Tuco Benedicto Pacífico Juan María Ramírez.

Their goal is to find $200,000 in the form of gold. That money is located in a certain cemetery.

Will they achieve it?

In spite of the number of positive reviews, this movie, sadly, did not please me at all. The opening was particularly weak, excluding the opening credits.

Not only did it begin with a close up shot of a man’s face being way too close, but there was also too much silent staring. Eventually, Tuco Benedicto Pacífico Juan María Ramírez shot his gun.

The start of the film also suggested that there was going to be no dialogue. The silence lasted around 10 minutes.

To be clear, it’s not that I don’t like movies without dialogue. I just find it too boring or misleading if the first several minutes begin without any spoken words. The only exceptions are if it’s important or if there are enough levels of conflict.

Aside from the weak opening, there was also too much violence at times. I covered up or skip certain moments because they were getting too much for me. And that surprised me for a movie released in the 60s.

And a big bummer was the slow pacing. For a movie that is almost 3 hours, it felt like it took forever to even get to the half hour mark. I actually stopped the movie around that time.

Overall, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly did not work out for me. I was hoping for a better storyline actor reading the plot. Unfortunately, it did the opposite.
