The story begins with a supernatural villain called Megamind falling from a building. He is also narrating in the background. In this scene, he is about to die.

Then he decides to start back to when he was only a baby. At just 8 days old, he was living a peaceful life on another planet – only for an emergency to suddenly happen. Everybody had to evacuate.

Megamind’s parents gave him his toy and put him in a little ship that would fly him to Earth. They wished him the best of luck and express their love for him.

While on the way to Earth, infant Megamind came across his future arch-nemesis, Metro Man. Even as a baby, Megamind started developing negative feelings about him.

While Metro Man landed somewhere where he was raised by a loving couple, Megamind landed in a prison yard. He was found by some inmates who chose to raise him.

But they taught him the wrong things instead. For instance, they showed him a picture of a cop and hinted that police are bad. Then they showed him a picture of a burglar stealing and taught him that that was good.

Once Megamind got older, he went to a school for the gifted. And Metro Man was there, too. His powers and strength made him popular amongst the other kids. And Megamind envied him.

Now in the present as an adult, Megamind is constantly battling Metro Man. Yet Metro Man always wins.

At some point, Metro Man has his grand opening for his museum. But Megamind escapes from prison and kidnaps reporter Roxanne Ritchie. He even lures Metro Man into rescuing her from a bizarre place.

When Metro Man arrives, though, Megamind traps him with one of his extraterrestrial powers. Now he is unable to escape.

Megamind then goes on a crazy crime spree. But he realizes that it’s not the same without Metro Man.

What will happen next?

In spite of the overall positive ratings, this movie did not engage me at all, sadly. For once, the opening was way too boring.

Not only that, but the backstory of Megamind’s childhood was too long. I understand that certain details are necessary to know. However, I do think parts of it could have been shortened and edited to get you the main part of the story.

Another flaw was how Megamind’s transfer to Earth was too similar to that of Superman. And having his enemy compete with him while on the way to Earth does not make it that much different.

Overall, Megamind did not work out for me. I do admire Will Ferrell’s ability to do a British accent, though, when providing the voice for Megamind.

Otherwise, I give this film 2 out of 5 stars.
