In the Mediterranean lies a kingdom called Rosas. King Magnifico and his wife, Queen Amaya, rule it.

King Magnifico decides that he will grant people’s wishes on a certain day of each month. But he will make them forget those desires until the day of the ceremony. And only one wish will be granted.

Years have passed. The story now focuses on a teenage girl named Asha, who is 17 going on 18.

Asha gets lucky enough to be offered an interview with King Magnifico for her grandpa Sabino’s wish. Sabino has reached his 100th birthday and his wish is to inspire the next generation.

However, Asha’s interview with King Magnifico does not succeed. And that is because King Magnifico considers the wish too vague.

Not only does he never return ungranted wishes, but he also denies her apprenticeship. Yet Asha remains determined and will do whatever it takes for her grandfather to get his wish – even if it leads to crazy mishaps.

Despite the promising trailer and nostalgic vibes on the trailer, this movie ended up boring me a lot. Regardless of that, I do think it had a strong premise.

And the scene where Asha’s goat, Valentino, begins to talk after that star made animals speak was funny. I do admire Asha’s reaction.

And the first musical number was good. It even had some Middle Eastern or South Asian twists at times.

But other than that, the film remained boring. I couldn’t even finish it. I was shocked.

Overall, in spite of the strengths I mentioned, Wish did not work out for me. It actually got mixed reviews amongst the general public.

I give this film 2.5 out of 5 stars.
