If you look at the menu and categories of this blog, you will see the following:
– Animated Movies
– Disney Movies
– Live-Action Movies
– Misc. Movie Topics
While it’s obvious what the animated and live-action film categories cover, misc. movie topics focuses on certain general focuses of films rather than a specific movie. For instance, there are a few articles discussing film ratings. There also lists of different movies or film content that fit into a specific theme, like top movie quotes or the craziest movies in my opinion.
If you do go to the misc. movie topics page, you will notice fewer posts than in the other categories. That is on purpose – because this blog mainly centers around specific films – particularly reviews of them.
But since the tagline of this blog is “Discover movie reviews and more,” I obviously don’t just do reviews. Even with particular movies, I may also talk about them with lists or articles focused on mysteries, theories, or anything else.
I also do critiques, which are similar to reviews, – but are divided into specific subheadings – like strengths, weaknesses, and overall impressions as well as non-linear or disconnecting opinions.
Speaking of subheadings…
If you look at my 4 different categories, you will see that Disney is its own category. Why, you might ask?
The answer is because I have a LOT of posts about Disney movies. And it’s so much that I felt that giving its own category made it easier and more convenient for me as a way to organize my posts
I actually had an entertainment blog prior to this, covering movies, TV shows, books, stage performances, Harry Potter, and online videos. I actually still do – but I am no longer active on it since it was too broad. In addition, I made the site private.
But because I had an overwhelming number of Disney topics, I decided to take that same approach here – except without Disney Channel obviously.
But what about Touchstone or Fox you may wonder?
Only movies made directly by Disney get categorized as Disney movies on my blog. That means they must include the Disney logo opening – you know – the castle with the fireworks or older variants – and the company, Walt Disney Pictures, including its name.
I do not like view content by Fox, MCU, Lucas Pictures, or Touchstone Pictures as Disney movies the same way I would with a classic such as The Little Mermaid or The Lion King.
First of all, with the exception of Touchstone Pictures, the other studios were not always owned by Disney. Secondly, because of that, I don’t like to consider them Disney films, even if they are on Disney Plus or even feature their characters at Disney parks or on Disney cruises.
And third of all, Disney has bought too much. Sometimes, I’ve worried about what if EVERYTHING became Disney.
I would be really happy if Disney released Fox and they become their own independent studio again – or at least got partnered with a different company that was a better fit for them.
The only exception is Pixar. Disney and Pixar have collaborated until Disney bought it in 2006. But because the Disney logo and name is included in Pixar films, and Pixar movies get acknowledged as Disney films, I categorize them as Disney films.
Conclusion
All in all, these are the reasons why I categorize my posts as is. If you’re wondering why I didn’t talk about my animated and live-action movies categories, there really wasn’t much to discuss.
If you go to the pages and see that only the Disney and [non-Disney] live-action ones have subcategories while the animated film and misc. movie topics don’t, I will go into that on another post.
If you also have a movie blog, feel free to let me know in the comments or even share a link to it. I would love to see how others run their film blogs
