In the medieval Kingdom of Mourne, there is an uncivilized prince named Thadeous. His brother, Fabious, has returned from defeating the evil wizard, Leezar. In addition, he has brought back a woman, Belladonna, whom he will marry.

Fabious wants Thadeous to be the best man at the wedding. But once the ceremony starts, Thadeous is distracted by doing something else.

Even worse, Leezar happens to be alive, and crashes the wedding. He also kidnaps Belladonna.

King Tallious not only wants Fabious to rescue his bride but also insists that Thadeous goes with him. Thadeous doesn’t want to, though. But his father warns him to do what he says or be banished.

Aside from Thadeous, his servant and friend, Courtney, tags along. They ride a horse-drawn carriage – only for danger to happen. That prompts them to ride the horses away until they unintentionally fall off.

At some point, the guys discover why Leezar wants Belladonna. That is to impregnate her and have her give birth to a powerful dragon.

But luckily, the men do get a compass that will let them access the mighty Blade of Unicorn. However, this guy, Julie, whom Thadeous trusted, is actually serving Leezar.

The trio even needs to overthrow a bunch of knights. Then Fabious’s mechanical bird, Simon, comes to warn the king about the knights’ betrayal.

Shortly after, Thadeous sees a naked woman and gets attracted to her. But it turns out to be a trap. She is part of a tribe of wild people.

Their leader even challenges an enemy to a dragon with several heads. After that defeat, the fighter reveals herself and says that her name is Isabel.

Thadeous develops feelings for her, too. However, the next day, the main guys find out that Isabel stole the compass.

If that’s not bad enough, Fabious has had enough with Thadeous’s carelessness and selfishness. The brothers fight until Fabious leaves on his own to find the Blade of Unicorn.

But stakes continue to rise. What is going to happen next? Can the men still save Belladonna?

Unlike many other fantasy movies, this one is more lighthearted and even funny at times. It is also rated R for language, sexual content, nudity, and smoking. So, it’s not for kids.

Aside from that, there were also some parts that were gross. I either covered them up or even fast forwarded those scenes altogether.

But I did find a good number of strengths. Besides the lighthearted tone and humor, I admired how naive and immature Thadeous was. His characterization was depicted in a likable manner, though.

I also found it interesting that there were American actors in the cast such as Natalie Portman, who played Isabel, and Danny McBride, who portrayed Thadeous. They all nailed their abilities to do English accents properly.

The names of the characters also fit the fantasy genre. However, I found it odd that there was a man named Julie since that’s a girl’s name. The same is felt with a guy named Courtney, although Courtney did used to be a boy’s name until the 20th century.

Another unique aspect of this film is that no moment was too intense or scary – not even those that involved fighting or high stakes. So, if you’re looking for a mild fantasy film that is not too childish or is more adult-oriented, this one might be worth considering.

Overall, I enjoyed Your Highness. Yes, it received a lot of negative reviews. But I do tend to enjoy certain unpopular movies, such as this.

Anyway, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
