The Disney Princess franchise has been popular for many years. More and more princesses get added over time.
Although there are only certain princesses who receive the official Disney Princess status, I feel like there should be some inclusion of non-conventional princesses.
Below are the top princesses that I would like Disney to create.
1: A princess with glasses
Yes, a good number of princess movies take place before the invention of eyeglasses. However, glasses were invented in 1286. And there are plenty of Disney films set after that year.
In fact, a little girl who wore glasses once wrote to Disney saying how it would be nice to have a princess or heroine wear glasses. And then they gave Mirabel from Encanto glasses. But Mirabel is not a princess.
An official Disney princess wearing glasses could help real girls who wear glasses feel pretty and confident.
2: A princess with a dietary restriction
These days, we are given a lot of awareness of different dietary restrictions. There are peanut allergies, vegan diets, gluten intolerances, and many more.
So, including a Disney princess with a dietary restriction could be a good form of representation. It could also remind people how those with food allergies or intolerances are just as important as those without them.
3: A princess part of the LGBTQ+ community
Many of us remember when there was a trend to convince Disney to give Elsa a girlfriend. And a good percentage of the general public is trying to remind us that people in the LGBTQ+ community deserve equal rights and treatment.
Despite that, though, Disney has done little to incorporate that into any of their media. But it’s because they want to avoid having their content banned in areas of the world where anything that’s LGBTQ+ is illegal.
I understand that Disney is a huge company with global popularity. But including characters that are part of that community would be nice. Imagine how happy a young girl who knows that she is not straight sees a Disney princess that is lesbian, pansexual, etc.
4: A princess slightly younger than teen years
Although she isn’t an official Disney princess, Elsa is still recognized as the oldest [popular] Disney princess at age 21—making her the only one not a teenager.
On the other hand, Snow White is the youngest at age 14. Now imagine having a princess at, say, 12 years old.
I don’t know if there’s a minimum age for a princess to be considered official. But I do know that Vonellope from Wreck it Ralph is not an official Disney princess because she was considered too young at age 9.
Yet a little age diversity would be nice.
5: A princess who’s very intelligent
Although Disney has moved away from the damsel in distress trope and have made their later princesses stronger and braver, I would love to see a highly intelligent one. Yes, there is Belle, who loves to read, and is good at it.
But having a princess who possesses lots of knowledge in multiple subjects would be another step ahead for a strong female lead.
Conclusion
Even though there is no guarantee that Disney will ever produce these types of princesses, it is still cool to imagine.
